Honour Killing and its reasons by Insurgent Minds
Why Mr. Pranay is killed for caste?
The state is shaken up with the gruesome honour killing incident of Nalgonda. Pranay and Amrutha are known to everyone now and the incident broke the hearts of many people. Amrutha’s father is behind the murder but is this a single incident? No, it has a long history of the thought process behind it. Have a look at it.
The caste system is deeply rooted in Indian society for thousands of years. The basis of caste, religion, and culture etc. is Feudalism. It’s a rigid system where family structures, inheritance, societal status are pre-determined and carried on for generations without anybody questioning or society progressing. The people who owned and advocated this system are landlords. So that indicates, the land ownership is the base for a feudalist mindset.
After all the events in history, the advent of capitalism, technology, globalization, and merging of borders.. we think we are evolved but feudalism still prevails strongly with its widespread grip over the Indian society and even the world for that matter. The capitalism what we are witnessing now is not Laissez-faire capitalism, it’s just feudalism changing its identity in the form of feudal capitalism.
Coming to the incident of Pranay’s murder, for what all reasons it happened, there are few points we need to understand apart from a Feudalist mindset which is already discussed above.
1. Amrutha and Pranay loved each other and got married. But they are too young and haven’t grown financially independent. Things might have been better had they planned to get married after they turned 25 or even 28.
2. They planned for flying abroad for higher studies. They should have gone separately and got married there. Who would stop and who would question in the US?
3. Amrutha trusted her parents, especially her mother, and communicated all the details to her which made it easy for her father to plan a murder. Amrutha and Pranay shouldn’t have trusted them that blindly and easily without any second thought. Too much of innocence.
4. As a couple, they still didn’t get a foothold in society, didn’t become financially sound, nor got mental peace from threats. In that situation, they should have waited for a little to think of becoming parents. Amrutha’s pregnancy made them vulnerable which her father has taken advantage of.
5. Any girl who has grown up in a family where the father doesn’t respect women fears to marry the man of his choice because he will select the person who is like him. It feels like the end of life for the girl due to which she gets attracted to a boy who respects and cares for women.
6. A person who is rich by birth or became rich with hard work might accept changes in society but a person who has grown sudden rich with shortcuts will try to get the so called honour also in a shortcut.
7. Caste feeling is very strong in society. When will the Unity come is a question of time.
Make sure you love the person of your own caste. Otherwise be ready to face the consequences. Don’t think that somebody will support you or protect you. My sincere salute to all those who take that risk for their love.
