‘Prince’ Telugu movie review- Bizarre Comedy with romantic touch
An upgraded version of Jathiratnalu comedy with Music and Romance
With 2+ hours of runtime exclusively dedicated for comedy, the movie has its laugh riots in first half and in few parts of second half but the climax is the one not for ‘meaningful comedy’ lovers
When I saw the trailer of ‘Prince’ and song promos, what caught my attention was that ‘Jathiratnalu’ director is coming up with an ambitious bilingual with Sivakarthikeyan. He has decent audience base in Tamilnadu and teaming up with him definitely looked like a step up in Anudeep’s career.
Some hilarious jokes in the trailer, promo songs, and a new foreign face Maria built curiosity for watching the film
The movie runs around the premise of an Indo-Britan love story which is not taken well by anyone in the village the hero and heroine reside. Except the heroine and her family, all other characters are comic in the movie. Each one has their funny line which is actually not common in movies.
There are many moments in first which evoked laughter with simple jokes. Especially the bottle guard sequence and hero copying the love letter of a student etc. erupted the theatre into laughs.
The chemistry between lead pair is neatly established without any vulgar comedy. The newcomer Maria did a fabulous job in playing ‘Jessica’ who falls for heros quirkiness. Her performance remains as one of the highlights of the film and she creates an emotional touch to this otherwise slapstick comedy.
There’s a good emotional touch established between the lead pair but it’s not explored further because of the genre of the movie. In some very rare moments the movie almost looks like a love story.
Sivakarthikeyan gave his best as usual to his role. The surprise is in the songs where he exploded while dancing. He surpassed so called famous dancers in Telugu and Tamil industries with his energy in movements which are full of grace. He will definitely get name soon for his dacing ability.
Music
Music by Thaman lifted the movie to another level especially in the first half. His BGM for comedy and love moments gives a clear elevation in experiencing it. ‘Jessica Jessica’ hooked audience to their seats and for ‘Bimbiliki Pilapi’ the audiotorium was full of shouts.
My Paisa Vasool moment
My Paisa Vasool moment in the movie was the scene leading to Bimbiliki Pilapi and the song itself. Second favourite is the continuous comedy in first half where the auditorium is in splits for every 5-10 minutes.
Final Opinion
On the whole, ‘Prince’ is a full-length comedy entertainer tailor-made for meme lovers who like ‘Jathiratnalu’ kind of comedy. Those who enjoy comedy how much ever silly it is will enjoy it but for those who opt for meaningful laughter may not like it to their taste.
With lead pair, muisc, cinematography, and ongoing comedy you will enjoy it if you give it a try without expectations.
