“Your Happiness is under threat when everybody around you is unhappy.”
You know why India is an unhappy society relatively? Because of the huge competition, it has in acquiring things that are told to make people happy and successful. When you go to an interview where five hundred candidates were tested and only 5 people are selected, and you happen to be one of them.. imagine how much threat you have from the remaining 495.
It’s like this… If a super-rich house exists and all the surroundings is a slum area, the rich people will be under constant threat of theft or murder. That’s the reason all rich people live in the same are for company and safety. The same applies to happiness.
You can only be happy if the society as an overall is above average in happiness quotient. If you feel happy for having the things many of your neighbours don’t have, you will someday die of insecurity and overwhelming fear.
So without the society developing as a whole, your individual success is always vulnerable. People around you will always be desperate to steal or destroy what you achieved or gathered over time.
